Shalese Miller netted a pair of goals and Mountain View withstood a relentless Timberline assault Monday as the Mavericks upended the reigning 5A girls soccer state champions 2-1 in a District Three Tournament semifinal at Mountain View High.

"We were fortunate to get through," said Mountain View coach Jason Lang, whose goalkeeper Nicole Schultz finished with eight saves. "We had a really strong defensive effort. Timberline is extremely tough and possession was definitely in their favor."

Boise won Monday's other semifinal in a penalty shootout after the teams finished two overtimes tied 1-1.

The Mavericks (13-1-3) and Braves (12-2-2), who earned tickets to the state tournament with their victories, meet at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Mountain View for the district title.

Miller's two goals brought her season total to 26 for the 5A Southern Idaho Conference regular-season champs.

At 5 p.m. Tuesday, Timberline (10-4-2) plays Meridian (9-7-2) at Mountain View and Centennial (12-5-1) hosts Capital (13-4-2) for the district's last automatic state berths.

BOISE, CENTENNIAL BOYS SET FOR REMATCH

Boise beat Eagle 4-1 and Centennial topped Borah 3-0 on Monday at Timberline to advance to the District Three championship game and earn tickets to next week's state tournament.

The Braves (15-1-0) suffered their only loss this season against the Patriots (14-2-2) last week and will get their shot at redemption at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Timberline.
