The Nampa High football team learned something about discipline this week.

Quite simply, it pays off.

"This week, discipline was the word," quarterback Quaid Morris said. "We put it into play."

With a disciplined effort on both sides of the ball, the Bulldogs beat Mountain Home 54-7 in a 4A SIC showdown Friday night at Bulldog Bowl in Nampa.

The win puts the Bulldogs (5-1, 3-1) in a tie for the league lead with three regular-season games remaining. The loss was the first for Mountain Home (5-1, 3-1). The top three 4A SIC teams earn a spot in the playoffs.

"Our kids came out and played one heck of a game. ... It's kind of a sweet victory," Nampa coach Scott Wooldridge said.

The game was tied 7-7 with 11:48 to play in the second quarter, but the Bulldogs scored seven unanswered touchdowns.

"Especially since we lost to Middleton, it seemed like a must-win for us," Nampa senior Miles Hunsinger said. "I'm just really excited about it."

The Bulldogs started the scoring with a 4-yard TD run by Cole Rivera with 3:23 left in the first quarter. After a 3-yard touchdown run by Mountain Home running back Tallon Pauley, Nampa's scoring barrage started.

Rivera added his second TD on a 27-yard run, the end of a 14-play, 95-yard drive that ate up nearly seven minutes. The senior running back finished with 86 yards and three TDs.

The normally run-heavy Bulldogs added three more scores before halftime, including TD passes of 6 and 68 yards by Morris to Hunsinger and Elis Gonzalez, respectively.

Nampa took a 34-7 lead into the half when Morris connected with receiver Josh Seward on a 20-yard pass.

"We worked hard all week in practice and it showed tonight," Morris said. "I just put the ball in the air and they caught it."

By the fourth quarter, Wooldridge emptied the bench. Reserve running back Mahonri Bostrom led the charge, rushing for 80 yards and one TD.
