The 5A Southern Idaho Conference's league leaders are set to square off at at 7 Friday night when Vallivue hosts Centennial in Caldwell.

The Falcons (4-0, 1-0 5A SIC Division 2) own the league's most productive offense, while the Patriots (2-2, 0-0 5A SIC Division 2) boast the conference's stingiest defense.

Vallivue's offense enters Friday's game averaging 424.5 yards and 31.8 points per game. Centennial's defense has limited opponents to 228.3 yards and 13 points per game.

The Patriots' defense will be the toughest the Falcons have faced this season. Vallivue's four wins have come against defenses that rank in the lower half of their respective conferences. The Falcons' wins were against Skyview (ranks 7th defensively in 4A), Rocky Mountain (9th in 5A), Borah (8th) and Meridian (7th).

Centennial is on a two-game win streak after defeating Coeur d'Alene in double overtime last week, and Vallivue is coming off its first win over Meridian in coach Layne Coffin's three-year tenure.

Last season, Vallivue defeated Centennial 23-21, handing the Patriots their first home loss against a team from the 5A Southern Idaho Conference since 2002.

It also proved to be a pivotal game in the conference race, as the loss ended up costing the Patriots one of two state playoff berths out of the 5A SIC Division 2.
