The Eagle High football team spent most of Thursday's game at their own Thunder Stadium chasing the Timberline Wolves.
But the Mustangs were able to convert when it mattered most. Junior quarterback Taylor Kelly scored on a 1-yard sneak with 5.6 seconds left in the game to give Eagle a 46-42 win over Timberline.
"Taylor Kelly is very used to being in big-time environments and clutch situations," Eagle coach Paul Peterson said. "His pulse rate never gets above 50, even in these situations."
Kelly completed 28-of-41 passes for 326 yards and two touchdowns to help Eagle improve to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the 5A Southern Idaho Conference Division 2. Timberline falls to 2-3 and 0-2.
"It was amazing," Kelly said. "I knew that we had to get through it and drive down the field and get a 'W.' "
Trailing 42-39, the Mustangs took over at their own 33-yard line with 1:38 to play in the fourth quarter.
