McCall-Donnelly High football players will be led by a new coach for the third time in three seasons.
Mike Jimenez takes over this season for Mike Howard, who took over for Carl Keever. Keever spent two seasons at the helm of the Vandals.
"These kids that are juniors and seniors, they've had different coaches," Jimenez said. "You can't have a new guy at the helm every year. You can't build. As long as the sky doesn't fall, I'd like to be here awhile."
Having a coach stick around is good news for the central-Idaho high school.
Senior linebacker/center Danny Anderson said the process of getting to know a new coach every season became routine.
Still, Anderson was surprised when Howard stepped down after last season.
"I was surprised," he said. "We always have coaching changes each year."
Jimenez, who coached in northern California the past seven years, wants to build a program. To do that, he wants to stick around.
"He seems like he's pretty committed and he's going to build a program," Anderson said.
Jimenez said he does not talk about winning and losing. He wants his team to do things the right way and let that carry over to the field.
"If you do the right things at the right time, hopefully, the scoreboard will say the thing that we want it to say," said Jimenez, who triples as offensive and defensive coordinator and head coach.
"We're trying to get some stability back in the program. My goal is to build a nice strong platform and foundation and then we can go from there."
