Create a Concrete Leaf: 10 a.m. Aug. 8 at 9600 W. Brookside Lane, Boise (off Idaho 55, near Shadow Valley Golf Course). Learn to make a concrete leaf using a leaf from your garden or ours. The leaves make a beautiful garden accent or use them as a bird bath or feeder. Fun activity for the entire family. $20, includes instruction and supplies to make one leaf. Registration required. Call Pat Baker at 870-1299 or e-mail patbaker@cableone.net

Stepping Stones Adult/Child Workshop: 10 a.m. Aug. 8 at Idaho Botanical Garden, 2355 N. Penitentiary Road, Boise. Homemade stepping-stones are a great way to personalize your garden. Learn how to make your own special garden ornament. We’ll make a round stone and decorate the wet cement with polished stones, glass marbles and tiles. These basic materials and the molds will be provided. You may wish to bring a few embellishments of your own, such as shells, or bits of broken pottery. You will mix the cement, add it to the mold, wait a few minutes to let the cement become firm yet yielding, and then decorate your stone. You will need to leave it at the Garden to dry for 3 days and then collect it when convenient. Cost is $15 IBG member pair, $20 nonmembers. Registration required. 343-8649.

August 12

Delightful Dahlias: 7 p.m. Aug. 12 at Idaho Botanical Garden, 2355 N. Penitentiary Road, Boise. Dahlias, native to Central and South America, have blossomed into a wide variety of sizes, shapes and colors since they were first introduced to the United Kingdom two hundred years ago. Come to this class to learn everything you’ll need to know to grow dahlias in southwest Idaho. Topics will include dahlia selection, planting and care. Cost is $10 IBG members, $15 nonmembers. Registration required. 343-8649.
