Boise based filmmaker Michael Hoffman showed up in Rome last week as his film “The Last Station” opened at the Rome Film Festival.
Hoffman and Helen Mirren, one of the film's stars, walked down the red carpet for the film's premiere on Oct. 18.
Mirren won the Silver Marc'Aurelio Jury Award for Best Actress for her performance of Sofya Tolstoy, wife of the luminary writer Leo Tolstoy.
Hoffman’s film about the last year of Tolstoy’s life is scheduled to in the United States on Jan. 30. It is Hoffman's 13th film, and it has definitely been lucky for him so far.
It's gaining critical praise wherever it plays and will be released in time for Oscar consideration. The buzz around the film suggests that Mirren and Christopher Plummer (Tolstoy) are worthy of nominations.
