1. PARTY AT THE SPECTRUM
Judging from the photo above, things were rockin’ at last week’s Thursday Thunder. (The free concert series ended Aug. 27.) The Boise Spectrum will fire up another kind of party from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, when it celebrates its spruced-up, grand reopening. You can even win $1,000 cash.
Never miss a local story.
2. BE KING (OR QUEEN) OF THE FAIR
This is it — the final weekend of the Western Idaho Fair. Eat something deep-fried. Snag a carnival wristband. Bang your head to the latest version of prog-metal band Queensryche at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, at the grandstands. (Recent fan video below.)
3. APPRECIATE GOOD GRAMMER
On Saturday, Aug. 29, pop star Andy Grammer will headline the third annual Baldapalooza, a family-friendly fundraiser for Camp Rainbow Gold. Something “huge” is supposed to happen on stage this year, I’m told. It’s a secret. (No idea what this means.)
4. BE MULTICULTURAL
Japan Day at the Basque Center? Heck yeah. That’s how Boise rolls. This year, the celebration runs from noon to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29. Bring an appetite, because the sushi bowl is gonna rock.
5. DO A CON
Get your mind out of the gutter, prison fetishists. Library Comic Con is a family-friendly celebration of comic-book culture. Wear a costume if you’d like. It runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Main Library at 715 S. Capitol Blvd.
