1. ROCK THE BLUES
For the sake of argument, let’s pretend that you enjoy seeing blues-rock musicians who absolutely destroy on guitar. And sing with sandpaper-soul vocals. Theoretically, this would suggest that you might benefit from attending the Boise Blues Festival on Sunday at Julia Davis Park. Headliner Matthew Curry is so effortlessly talented that it’s borderline criminal.
Never miss a local story.
2. HAVE A BEER FOR KERRY
Edge Brewing brewmaster Kerry Thomas (maiden name Caldwell) recently had a horrible accident. Not only is the burn healing process incredibly painful, it’s also insanely expensive. Help out by pounding, er, sipping a few Saturday at Pre Funk. Kudos to the local breweries who donated kegs. You also can donate at GoFundMe.
3. SOC IT TO ’EM
Is Jaialdi here yet? Not quite, but the Basque Soccer Friendly will get the party started early. It’s at 7 p.m. Saturday at Albertsons Stadium. [Tickets] There’s an after-party from 9 p.m. to midnight at the parking lot at 6th and Grove streets, too. Do yourself a favor if you’re going to the game: Park Downtown and take a shuttle.
4. PARTY IN MERIDIAN
Is a Beach Boys tribute concert totally freaking cheesy? Of course. That doesn’t mean it won’t be fun. Not to mention free. Get outdoors and join Colorado-based Kahuna Beach Party, which will headline Rock the Village on Friday. (The audio in the video below isn’t edited; gotta admit, they hit those vocal harmonies pretty well.) The Village at Meridian’s weekly music party goes from 6:30 to 9:45 p.m. Austin Martin opens.
5. LAUGH IT UP, BOISE
Boise’s Funniest Person started last weekend at Liquid Laughs and is in full swing. It’s on a run of nine consecutive sellouts since it started in 2013. Why? Because the formula is a hoot. “You never know what you’re going to get when you slap 20 people who have never done stand-up comedy up there and see what’s going to happen,” Liquid co-owner Jeremy Aevermann explains. Get in on the fun for the next three Saturdays. [Tickets]
