1. CELEBRATE COMEDY
As an enthusiastic cynic, I had serious doubts about the survival chances for Idaho Laugh Fest when it debuted last year. Hey, I was wrong. Enjoy the the second annual barrage of stand-up and improv today and Saturday in a gathering of 70-plus comics at five venues.
2. ROCK LOCALLY
Good friends, good tunes, good seats: Americana-laced local acts New Transit, David Andrews Band and Bill Coffey and His Cash Money Cousins will take over the Riverside Hotel’s Sapphire Room on Saturday night.
3. BE MODERN
If you’ve been putting off a trip to Boise Art Museum for “Arp, Miró, Calder”, well, in the words of Kenny and Michael, this is it: The modern-art exhibit’s final day is Sunday. Pictured below: Alexander Calder’s sculpture “The Cone.”
4. BREAK RESOLUTIONS
Live bands and vendors will fill Visual Arts Collective on Friday for the annual Broken Resolutions Ball. Headlined by local folk-rockers Interstate, it also will feature Black Rose, a bunch of cool ex-teachers returning to rock Boise with classic-rock covers for the first time in 30 years.
5. NEXT WEEK: DRINK UP
Ready to exit the Discovery Center of Idaho with fewer brain cells yet somehow smarter? Knock back a drink or two at “The Chemistry of the Cocktail,” this month’s ”Adult Night” theme. Distillery and booze-related demonstrations will invade the place on Thursday, Jan. 15, along with tasty cocktails and hot pizza.
