1. TWERK IN GARDEN CITY
When Sir Mix-A-Lot starts rapping “Baby Got Back” on Saturday at the Boise Music Festival, you best be prepared. Why? Because you can’t unSEE some things. Imagine the antics in the video above multiplied by a zillion sweaty, jiggling Idahoans. Still, I’d love to check out Fitz and the Tantrums. And lots of people will want to see Train. Here’s a guide to the festival. Be careful out there.
Never miss a local story.
2. VISIT THE OLD WEST
Frontier Days is today through Sunday in Idaho City. You’ll enjoy shoot-out reenactments, live music, arts and crafts in the park, kids activities, a wine and beer garden and more. (What? You can’t just drink beer out in the street like at the Stanley StreetDance series?) I’d link to a calendar of events, but it doesn't exist. I’m not sure they even know about the Interwebs yet in Idaho City. Frontier Days is 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
3. GET RID OF THE KIDS
Well, for two hours, at least bless their little hearts. There’s a “fiesta” from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Fairmont Pool: swim-themed games, limbo and other dance contests, prizes, a DJ, etc. It’s the first of four Saturday-night pool parties this summer around Boise.
4. SPIN OUT
The ongoing Pedal 4 the People celebration winds down — or winds up — with its finale, Hellodrome: "Think velodrome, cyclocross, go kart track, and Mad Max on steroids all combined into one epic bicycle race (no steroids allowed). ... Lots of spectator spots on the patio and Beer Garden Zone of Thunder." Tell me that the artwork from Crooked Fence Brewing co-owner Kelly Knopp doesn’t make you want to get on your bike and burn rubber (or at least sacrifice a goat or something.)
5. CHILL UNDER THE STARS
Bratwursts and beer at 8 p.m.? Writer Tim Woodward and Wide Eye Productions presenting a free showing of “Idaho, The Movie” at 9 p.m.? Sounds like a relaxing way to spend tonight’s summer solstice. It’s being put on by Basin Ski Club and event host Outdoor Exchange, 1405 W. Grove St., in Boise. Bring a lawn chair.
