The Garden City Mural Project is back for a second round. The five-year plan to create art murals along the Osage Street alley that runs in front of Cinder Winery kicked off last summer with a mural by Sector Seventeen. “A Garden of Creativity” by artists Collin Pfeifer and Solomon Hawk Sahlein is on the back of Cobby’s Sandwich Shop, 4348 Chinden Blvd.
The Project started with Cinder Winery owners Joe Schnerr and his wife, Cinder winemaker Melanie Krause, who wanted to share their view of Garden City as a growing creative community.
“This is a celebration of the home we’ve found here,” Schnerr says.
They partnered with other Garden City businesses, including Surel’s Place, a Garden City artist residency that runs the calls to artists, and will spearhead the Kickstarter.com campaign to fund the $6,000 mural.
Never miss a local story.
Cinder and Surel’s Place received10 submissions, now narrowed to four, for the next section of wall on the back of Custom Truck, 4376 Chinden Blvd.
You can weigh in on the proposals that are on display at Surel’s Other Place, a mezzanine gallery inside the Cinder tasting room, 107 E. 44th St., Garden City, and online at SurelsPlace.org. Public feedback will be part of the decision making process.
