American Music Abroad is seeking music ensembles to travel the globe and share America’s diverse musical culture with the global music scene.
It's a cultural exchange created through the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs which offers many different exchange opportunities. This year's class of musicians comes from places as diverse as New York City, Akron, Ohio and Portland, Maine. So, why not from Boise, Idaho?
Each year, approximately 10 ensembles are selected to embark on month-long, multi-country tours, where they will engage with international audiences through public concerts, performances with local musicians, lecture demonstrations, workshops, jam sessions and media interviews.
The program is looking for groups that perform characteristically American musical genres including, but not limited to: blues, bluegrass, Cajun, country, folk, electronic, Latin, Native American, gospel, hip hop/urban, indie rock, jazz, punk, R&B and zydeco.
