Jane and Michael Brumfield have decided to close their Brumfield's Gallery at 1513 N. 13th St., in Hyde Park, after one last show that will run Sept. 13-Nov. 1.
The Brumfields, from England, bought the business in 2009 from Perry Allen, who ran it as Basement Gallery in the lower level of the Idanha Building for 21 years. The Brumfields moved it to Hyde Park in 2013.
Gallerist Jane Brumfield maintained Allen’s connection to the Treasure Valley’s edgier artists and illustrators, blending them with her quirky, darker aesthetic and her stable of national and international artists. Area artist connected to the gallery include illustrators Bill Carman and Erin Ruiz and ceramicist Jim Budde. Brumfield produced deeply thematic exhibits and in recent years began commissioning work for her shows.
The finale show will be “Monkey Brand” by British sculptor Leigh Dyer, who will be in Boise for the opening reception on Sept. 13. The Brumfields commissioned three pieces for the show.
