Berg taught multiple generations of children to sing and bring joy to their lives through music. For 30 years, she worked with elementary school kids in the Boise and Meridian school districts. She founded Opera Idaho Children’s Chorus in 1993 and served its leader up until last year. She also volunteered as vocal director for Boise Music Week for many years.
“She truly was loved,” says her daughter in law Laura Welsh Berg. “The comments on Facebook have been so touching. You couldn’t go to the grocery store or out to dinner with her without running into seven or eight people she knew. She knew them, she knew their kids, she taught them all.”
“Linda instilled and cemented a love of music in children and everyone around her,” Teresa Eshelman Barnes posted on Facebook.
Berg received the Idaho Teacher of the Year award in 2010 and was the grand marshal at the Boise Holiday Parade in 2014.
Berg lived in a creative family. Her husband Lynn Berg, Jr. teaches voice at Boise State University and is a well know baritone in the region. Her son Lynn Robert Berg III is a member of the Idaho Shakespeare Festival company, as is Welsh Berg. Linda Berg’s daughter Laura Berg Feo-Fernandez is a concert violist and her husband Alexis Feo-Fernandez is a concert pianist.
