One month after Tony Hawk was born, Michael Deeds entered the universe in North Platte, Neb., unable to skateboard the gravel road outside his childhood home. Deeds took years of music lessons as a kid before deciding he’d rather write about tunes than headbang while playing “Music Box Dancer” on piano. Next step: a bachelor’s degree in news-editorial journalism from the University of Nebraska. An incurable Cornhusker, Deeds spent two years as a sports writer before settling into his role as entertainment writer at the Idaho Statesman. Deeds also co-hosts "The Other Studio" Sundays on 94.9 FM "The River," appears on Channel 6 News on Thursdays and reviews albums for The Washington Post. He sometimes freelances for magazines when he feels ambitious. So, like, once a year. He's generally too busy writing about himself in the third person or relishing Idaho's superb hot springing, trout fishing, mountain biking, snowboarding, beer drinking ... OK, you get it. He's a bum.
