The Associated Press

The Meridian online retailer decided to recall 65 products listed in federal search warrants a few days after federal officials raided the company's headquarters and Boise warehouse, the chief executive officer said Tuesday.

Ryan DeLuca said the recall is not part of any agreement with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which suspects Bodybuilding.com of marketing and distributing steroids. The FDA raid Sept. 24 followed a two-year investigation in which investigators said they bought products from Bodybuilding.com that later tested positive for steroids.

"Our goal is to sell only safe and effective products," DeLuca told the Idaho Statesman.

Steroids can cause a litany of problems, including liver damage, heart attacks, strokes and death.

"Prior to agreeing to carry the recalled products, the company received assurances from all of the manufacturers of the recalled products that these products were properly classified as dietary supplements in compliance with federal law, meaning that these products did not contain any unlawful ingredient," the company said in a news release.

The list of recalled products matches the list in the FDA's search warrant, DeLuca said.

For instructions on how to return products, call 1-866-236-8417 or e-mail service@bodybuilding.com.

DeLuca said the company has not seen much change in its business since the raid, probably because it sells so many other products. Bodybuilding.com sells about 12,000 products, many of them protein powders and multivitamins.
