JOB CHANGES

West Valley Medical Center has welcomed Dr. Hillary Elins, who joined the OB/GYN Associates medical staff and began seeing patients this month.

Elins practiced for two years at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base/Wright State School of Medicine, then in Idaho for the past year at Mountain Home Air Force Base Medical Center. Last year she was awarded the U.S. Air Force Commendation Medal, given for meritorious service.

Elins earned her bachelor's degree in molecular and cellular biology from the University of Arizona before moving on to receive her medical degree from American University of the Caribbean, Netherland Antilles, with clinical rotations at Johns Hopkins and University of Illinois. She completed her residency at Methodist Health System. Elins is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology. RECOGNITION

J. Stephen Herring, leader for the U.S. Department of Energy's Idaho National Laboratory research on nuclear hydrogen production, has been named a Fellow by the American Nuclear Society. The Fellow designation is the highest honor ANS can bestow on an individual and acknowledges outstanding leadership, professional accomplishment and service to the profession.

A native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Herring completed his undergraduate education at Iowa State University. He earned a doctorate in nuclear engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Since coming to INL in 1979, he has achieved a continued stream of recognition, and most recently was appointed a Laboratory Fellow.

Idaho Sleep Specialists P.C. in Boise received program accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

To receive a five-year accreditation, a sleep center must meet or exceed all standards for professional health care designated by the academy. The accreditation process involves detailed inspection of a center's facility and staff, including an evaluation of testing procedures, patient contacts, and physician training. Additionally, the facility's goals must be clearly stated and include plans for positively affecting the quality of medical care in the community it serves.

Idaho Sleep Specialists P.C. is directed by Dr. Brett Troyer and is located at 403 S. 11th St. For more information, call 895-0411.

GOOD DEEDS

A grant from the OfficeMax Boise Community Fund helped sponsor Diabetes Prevention and Safety Programs in 20 local schools over the past year. Humphreys Diabetes Center trained teachers and staff on how to prevent emergencies and care for children with type 1 diabetes in their schools. The programs also taught students how to stay active and eat healthy to prevent childhood obesity and type 2 diabetes.
