Boise Mayor David Bieter on Wednesday presented the city's annual EnviroGuard awards to three Boise businesses. According to city officials:

• Barger-Mattson Auto Salvage has been dismantling and recycling unwanted vehicles for more than 50 years. The company removes useable parts and resells them. The company resells, reuses or disposes of all fluids reclaimed from cars, and participates in a state program to remove mercury switches.

• Boise State University has developed a long-term plan to make the BSU campus climate-neutral. The master plan commits the university to build high-performance buildings and encourages sustainable land-use planning. The school has reduced electrical and natural gas consumption, curbed carbon dioxide emissions, and is purchasing fuel-efficient vehicles.

• St. Luke's Regional Medical Center has invested more than $1 million in energy-efficient measures, reducing electric, natural gas and water consumption. St. Luke's also expanded recycling programs and rewards employees for using alternative transportation.
