Boise State sophomore Brandy Hickcox scored on a free kick in the 89th minute to give the Broncos a 2-1 victory over Fresno State in the first round of the WAC soccer tournament Thursday.
The victory was Boise State's 11th, which ties a school record. The No. 3-seeded Broncos advance to play No. 2 Utah State at 3 p.m. Friday. This year's tournament games are being played at the Boas Tennis and Soccer Complex near the Boise State campus.
Freshman Erica Parks put Boise State up 1-0 in the 51st minute, but the Bulldogs evened the score 14 minutes later, setting up Hickcox's heroics.
Boise State improved to 11-6-4.
Prior to Boise State's match, Nevada defeated New Mexico State 1-0 with a goal in the final minute.
Nevada, seeded No. 4, will play No. 1 seed San Jose State at 12:30 p.m. Friday. San Jose State and Utah State had first-round byes. The championship match is Sunday at 1 p.m.
