Boise State lost to Washington State 85-76.

The Boise State women's basketball team suffered two losses Thursday at Taco Bell Arena.

Visiting Washington State scored an 85-76 win over the Broncos, snapping their 19-game home winning streak, but the sting of BSU's other loss will last much longer than a nonconference loss.

Senior point guard Tasha Harris fell to the floor just 40 seconds into the second half and had to be carried off the floor. She returned to the bench on crutches with ice wrapped around the back of her ankle and foot.

Bronco coach Gordy Presnell said he wouldn't comment on the injury because Harris hadn't been examinated by a doctor. But he told Washington State coach June Daugherty, who used to coach at Boise State, that it appeared to be very serious.

"You never, ever want to see something like that happen," Daugherty said. "Seeing a kid get hurt like that, any player, let alone one of her stature, kind of takes the glitter off the win, to be honest."

Harris, an All-WAC player last season and the preseason conference player of the year in media voting, had nine points and four assists before leaving and is scheduled to see a doctor Friday.

If she is out for the season, she will join backcourt mate Jessica Thompson on the bench. Thompson had offseason surgery and is sitting out the season. Thompson was a second-team All-WAC player last season.

"We're going to have to regroup and get ourselves off the mat," Presnell said.

Harris went out with the Cougars (1-1) up by 10 points, a lead they extended to 61-43 with 11:28 to play before the Broncos (2-1) clawed their way back in.

BSU got within 65-60 after a three-point play by Brittany Moore with 5:33 left.

"I think it boosted us to play harder since we didn't have our starting point out there," said BSU forward Marisa Stotler, who finished with 14 points and six rebounds. "It gave us the fire to get back in the game."

Ja'Lara Walker finished with 16 points and five rebounds for the Broncos, who went 0-of-8 from 3-point range.

"I think it's a mental thing," senior Jenna Galassi said. "We've got to be confident and take them when they're good shots."

WSU placed five players in double figures, led by April Cook's 18 points, and made 23-of-28 free throws to withstand BSU's comeback attempt.

"We're excited about the win," Daugherty said. "We knew BSU was going to make a run. ... Fortunately for us we hit free throws."
