It was senior day at Bronco Stadium as defensive end Mike T. Williams is announced and thanked by Boise State Head Coach Chris Petersen at the start of the Bronco's game with Fresno State.

Boise State football coach Chris Petersen carefully avoided an absolute answer, but he said Saturday that he expects to coach the Broncos in 2009 and beyond.

Petersen, whose name has surfaced in connection with several job openings around the country, said he has not been contacted about any jobs this year. He said he is "not necessarily" interested in any of those jobs - including the opening at Washington.

"It's just really like we've been telling our recruits and everybody - we think this is a special place, we really do," Petersen said. "We're just excited about what's happened here and the future plans."

Petersen said he has made a strong statement to recruits about his future.

"I am saying that, that I'm not going anywhere," he said. "There's always so much speculation. I think we're pretty solid here. I think we've got a good setup."

Pressed to say he definitely would coach the Broncos in 2009, Petersen hesitated slightly.

"I don't know how to say this because I'm not going to be put in this box, but I'm not planning on going," he said. "But we've always heard some of these coaches say they're not going and something comes along where they say, 'I didn't know about that.' We just feel very confident that this is a great place, we like being here, we're recruiting very good players here and we feel confident we'll be here for hopefully a long time."

Petersen is 35-3 in three seasons at Boise State, with two undefeated regular seasons, two WAC championships and the famous 2007 Fiesta Bowl victory. The Broncos (12-0 overall, 8-0 WAC) wrapped up the 2008 regular season Friday with a 61-10 defeat of Fresno State.

Petersen's predecessors - Houston Nutt (Arkansas), Dirk Koetter (Arizona State) and Dan Hawkins (Colorado) - all cashed in their Boise State success for higher-profile jobs.

Petersen said his interest in other jobs would stem more from what's happening here than what's available elsewhere.

"If things stopped progressing at Boise State, that's probably the biggest thing," he said. "If we weren't able to keep the assistants' salaries up and we decided that we're good where we are facilities wise, then things change a little bit. But the administration has been so good about that. That's what keeps everybody excited about being here."

Petersen is in the second year of a five-year contract. He made $850,000 in base salary in 2007 and $935,000 in 2008. Because BSU won 12 games this year, he will make $1,112,650 next year.

The administration confirmed earlier this month a new deal was being discussed, but Petersen said Saturday there are no current talks.

He would like to extend the contract. "I think it would be good if we could stay here a long time and keep doing what we're doing," he said.

OTHER NOTES

The Broncos don't expect DE Shea McClellin (leg) to play in a bowl. With Mike T. Williams (knee) injured in Friday's game, that leaves two healthy ends. Petersen is hopeful injured DL Steven Reveles (broken arm), who can play end, will return for the bowl. ... The Broncos won't have any practice or conditioning until Saturday. Coaches will spend the week recruiting.
