'TAKE BACK THE WAC'

The Broncos are 52-4 since joining the WAC in 2001 and they won five straight titles from 2002 to 2006.

They still haven't lost a WAC home game. But they didn't get their rings last year, when they lost the title game at Hawaii, and the league's coaches named Fresno State the favorite this year.

The championship likely will come down to the Nov. 28 finale at home against the Bulldogs.

BACKFIELD DYNAMIC

The Broncos enter the season with four tailbacks who could start many places - senior star Ian Johnson, sophomore Hawaii Bowl MVP Jeremy Avery, sophomore D.J. Harper and freshman Doug Martin.

It will be intriguing to watch how the coaches utilize each guy and how they handle their roles. If each keeps a positive attitude, they could give the Broncos a powerful run game and highly skilled special-teams units.

CHILDS RETURNS

Junior wide receiver Jeremy Childs, whoset a school record with 82 receptions last season, was suspended for the Hawaii Bowl, the spring semester and this year's season opener.

When he returns, he will be on pace to break the school record for career receptions (he needs 94) - and he could do it early in 2009.

LIKE A BROKEN RECORD

The Broncos are 0-13 on the road against Bowl Championship Series-conference teams. It's a familiar stat - and one the Broncos can make go away by beating Oregon on Sept. 20 in Autzen Stadium.

EXTREME HOME MAKEOVER

It's a new era at Bronco Stadium with the addition of the $37 million Stueckle Sky Club. The structure includes luxury suites, club seats, loge boxes and spacious, modern media facilities. Construction also allowed Boise State to revamp the west concourse and add some prime seats to the west grandstands. The new capacity: 32,000.
