During his Boise State football career, Jadon Dailey was never at a loss for words.
The starting center on the Broncos' undefeated 2006 team, which won the Fiesta Bowl, was easily the most quotable member of the squad, a reliable source of comedy and insight.
Now all Boise State fans will get a chance to hear Dailey's opinion. Dailey will be the color analyst on KIDO (580 AM) Boise State football broadcasts this fall, joining recently hired play-by-play announcer Bob Behler in the booth.
"Once they told me they wanted me to do it, I was obviously as excited as can be," Dailey said Wednesday from Arizona, where he moved shortly after graduating from Boise State in 2007.
Peak Broadcasting and KIDO won the radio rights earlier this year, ending Citadel and KBOI's long run as the Broncos' radio station.
Dailey has no previous radio experience, but that didn't stop at least eight people from recommending him for the job to Peak Broadcasting senior vice president Kevin Godwin.
Godwin said Dailey's role in the "Out of the Blue" documentary also played a role. He stole the show with his wit and commentary during the documentary about the 2006 season.
"We hit it off. Everyone went, 'Yeah, this makes sense,' " Godwin said.
Dailey, an undersized player who failed to get any scholarship offers out of high school and quit his first junior college team before earning his way to Boise State and a starting spot, is eager to take on another challenge.
"It's going to take some time and practice," said Dailey, who will also work in sales for the station.
Dailey, who played with some of the current players and played under much of the same coaching staff, knows he will be on the other side of the game now.
"It will be interesting. I'll see the same stuff I used to run," Dailey said. "It's going to be exciting."
Behler, a veteran of more than 20 years in the broadcast booth, talked on the phone with Dailey for more than 90 minutes recently. Behler, who said he has worked with many first-timers in the booth, was impressed with Dailey's intelligence and enthusiasm.
"He's going to add a lot in stories and knowledge," Behler said. "He's going to help me a heck of a lot, knowing personnel, history and coaches. He's going to bring a lot to the table."
Godwin said the search for a basketball analyst would be put on hold until football season gets under way.
Peak has a two-year contract to broadcast Boise State football and men's basketball games. Behler replaces longtime radio voice Paul J. Schneider, while Dailey replaces former football color commentator Jeff Caves.
KIDO's first broadcast will be the Aug. 30 season opener against Idaho State.
