MERIDIAN - About 10:10 p.m. Saturday, a white Corsica smashed into a Boise patrol car with its lights flashing parked on the right side of Interstate 84's westbound lanes just west of Eagle Road.

The officer was not in the car, which was badly damaged, police said. Joshua Benney, 37, Nampa, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Three officers had arrested a drunken driver just prior to the crash. One officer left to take that driver to jail while the other officers waited outside their cars for a tow truck.

The Corsica rear-ended the first patrol car, which was partially in the right lane because of the DUI stop. No other cars were damaged. Benney's blood alcohol level did not test over the legal limit. He could be cited for reckless driving.

Officers warn drivers to obey Idaho's Move Over law and to avoid distractions while driving.
