Sizzler restaurants in Boise and Meridian and Ruby River Steakhouse in Boise are pitching in to help the 23 families affected by last month's Oregon Trail Fire with a donation of $6,021 to the Boise Firefighters Burnout Fund.

Shortly after the fire, the restaurants partnered with radio station KZMG-FM (Magic 93.1) and morning disc jockey Dan Tooker and invited customers to donate at local branches. The donation represents about half of what's usually in the fund, said Charlie Ruffing, fund chairman.

Part of the donation includes 10 percent of one day's sales, pledged to the project by the restaurants. Sizzler also collected donated items for the relief effort.
