Do you get tongue-tied when you think about telling your loved ones they need to get a colonoscopy, to lose some weight or to face up to some other sensitive health-care matter?

Regence BlueShield of Idaho is trying to help with e-cards you can e-mail family and friends. They are available at the insurer's Web sitemyregenceecard.com.

The site offers a series of humorous and poignant videos on topics such as weight loss, smoking, encouragement for new parents - even colonoscopies - that allow people to connect with others about health topics in a nonthreatening, lighthearted way.

For example, the colonoscopy video card, the most popular on the site, shows an extremely uncomfortable-looking man trying to offer encouragement to get a colonoscopy. "It's a lot like going to the dentist, except for the other end," he says, in part, as he stares at the floor.

The video cards may be customized with the recipient's name and are available to everyone, not just Regence members.

The Idaho Statesman is pleased to offer this opportunity to share information and observations about what's in the news. Some comments may be reprinted elsewhere in the site or in the newspaper. We encourage lively, open debate but ask that you remain on topic. Comments that are profane, personal attacks or otherwise inappropriate are subject to removal.
