Juan Duran is being held in the Ada County Jail on a felony charge of lewd conduct with a minor under the age of 16 after being arrested by Ada County Sheriff’s deputies Monday.
Sheriff’s officials say they began their investigation after being contacted by a medical professional to report the 13-year-old girl’s pregnancy last week.
Detectives eventually determined the girl had an ongoing sexual relationship with Duran and arrested him Monday.
Officials say the girl appeared to be using a false name to get medical care and are investigating the possibility of insurance fraud.
Deputies are also in contact with federal immigration authorities and are investigating if Duran is in the country illegally, Sheriff’s spokeswoman Andrea Dearden said Tuesday.
Investigators say they have evidence the 13-year-old girl's parents knew about her relationship with Duran. Deputies placed the parent's 3-year-old daughter in state custody because they had concerns about the child's safety. The 13-year-old girl is also in the custody of the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare.
Duran will make his initial court appearance later Tuesday.
The charge of lewd conduct is punishable by up to life in prison.
