How to get there

From Boise, take I-84 east to the Declo exit. The exit is just past Burley. Head south to Declo and Idaho 77. You'll go through the towns of Albion and Elba to Almo.

A new campground opens Saturday. It's called Smoky Mountain Campground, and it's in Castle Rocks State Park southeast of Burley.

It was funded in part by a grant from the state Recreational Vehicle Program and the Land and Water Conservation Fund.

The new camping area will be a welcomed addition to the City of Rocks National Reserve/Castle Rocks State Park area, which receives more than 85,000 visitors annually.

Campsite of the Week

Activities: Hiking, rock climbing, horseback riding, motorcycle riding and mountain biking.

Amenities: 38 modern campsites; picnic tables, grills, water and electric hookups. Central accessible shower and restroom.

Wildlife: Deer, rabbits and a variety of birds.

Fees/Reservations: Sites are all serviced with water and electricity, making them $20 a night (plus tax). Reservations accepted at www.parksandrecreation.idaho.gov or (866) 634-3246.

Nearest place to get supplies: Almo or Albion.
