There may be a recession in the rest of the state, but 2009 is already a boom for the Owens of Buhl.
On Tuesday, Cathie and Gregg Owen won the Idaho Lottery's $1,000,000 Raffle. The winning number was 102813.
The couple came to Boise on Wednesday to claim their prize, $672,000 after taxes.
"It's unbelievable," Gregg said. "It has not sunk in at all."
The 250,000 raffle tickets were sold out by Monday afternoon, said Idaho Lottery spokesman David Workman. This is the second year of the raffle.
Gregg bought the winning ticket at Ridley's supermarket, which will receive $20,000 for selling it, Workman said.
The first ticket Cathie checked Tuesday night was off by one number. Then she checked the second.
"I just started to say, 'We missed it by one,' but we hadn't, and I just started screaming," Cathie said.
The Owens have two sons, Gaige, who attends Boise State University, and Tory, a senior at Buhl High School.
Gregg said he usually buys a $5 lottery ticket on Wednesdays and Saturdays but has never won anything.
"Not even close," he said.
They have no idea what they'll do with the money, Cathie said.
"Maybe buy a gate for our lane," she said. "Or change our house number."
