Phil Groves, a senior fishery biologist with Idaho Power Co., uses two drone helicopters to study and count salmon nests in Idaho waterways. The drones are outfitted with GPS and other computer technology and high-definition cameras. Operators can control the six whizzing blades after a few hours of practice, Groves said.

Are those drones over Boise? Yes.

I daho Power Co. fish biologist Phil Groves doesn’t want to see any more of his colleagues injured or killed in helicopter crashes while doing research.
