Dan Popkey has been with The Idaho Statesman since 1984. He's been a columnist since 1994, but also worked as a police reporter, covered Boise City Hall, the Statehouse and politics. He's covered the Idaho Legislature since 1987. In 2007, Dan led the Statesman's coverage of the Sen. Larry Craig sex scandal, which was recognized as a Pulitzer Prize finalist. He was the inaugural winner of the Idaho Press Club's Reporter of the Year Award for 2007 and won the Tedd M. Natt 1st Amendment Award for his 2003 coverage of University Place. He has a bachelor's in political science from Santa Clara University and a master's in journalism from Columbia University. He has two children and lives in Boise.
