Fraudsters are targeting people looking for work, using fake Idaho Power job listings to gather personal information.
Idaho Power and its parent company, IdaCorp, said the listings have appeared on Craigslist. The company learned Thursday morning that a listing appeared on the Idaho Department of Labor website for job seekers; it has since been removed.
"All scams are terrible, but this one is truly despicable," said Angelique Keavney, human resources leader for the company. "The unknowing participant goes from thinking he or she has a new job and supplying information for a background check, to learning they've been targeted once their identity or bank accounts are compromised."
Five people have contacted Idaho Power's human resources department about the fraudulent posting so far, according to the Lynette Berriochoa, corporate communications leader for the company.
The Idaho Department of Labor is in the process of tracking down how the fraudulent listing was posted to its website, she said.
Scam victims should file a police report and contact the Idaho Attorney General at 334-2424 or (800) 432-3545.
