Centennial High grad signs with Sporting Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Michael Kafari, 22, was a first team all-conference forward in 2008 and '09, and led the Patriots to the 5A state soccer championship in 2009. The Ghana native moved to the U.S. at the age of 9, and starred for New Mexico in college, helping the Lobos to a 58-16-12 record during his career. He was drafted by Vancouver in the third round of this year's MLS draft and signed with USL PRO affiliate Charleston. But when Kafari became available, Sporting Kansas City manager Peter Vermes said he jumped at the opportunity to sign a player he scouted in college.
