Letter: Guns on campus

July 10, 2014

Boise State and other state colleges are facing increased costs resulting from the new law allowing students to carry weapons onto campus. One effective way to amortize these costs would be to charge an additional fee for bringing guns on campus, similar to purchasing a parking permit for bringing a car on campus. The fee could be set at whatever the level the university deemed appropriate, say, $100, $500 or even $1,000 per semester. Such fees would also serve to discourage bringing these dangerous weapons around other students and faculty.
