Former Steelheads coach appointed to Texas Stars


BOISE - Derek Laxdal, 48, is the new head coach of the Texas Stars, the Idaho Steelheads' American Hockey League affiliate. Laxdal coached the Steelheads from 2005 to 2010, leading Idaho to two ECHL Kelly Cup finals, winning in 2007. He was also the ECHL Coach of the Year in 2010. He has spent the past four seasons as head coach of the Edmonton Oil Kings in the Western Hockey League. Texas won the 2014 Calder Cup championship.
