SPOKANE - Tyler Ihrig tossed seven strong innings and all nine Boise batters recorded at least one hit, as the Hawks ended a seven-game losing streak with an 8-4 victory over the Spokane Indians Wednesday night. Ihrig limited the top offensive team in the Northwest League to just five hits, giving up three third inning runs, to pick up his first win of 2014.

• Jesse Hodges hit a two-run homer on Tuesday for the Hawks, who matched their longest losing streak (7) since dropping eight straight in 2010.

• The Chicago Cubs, the Hawks' major-league affiliate, announced the signings of third baseman Joe Martarano (Fruitland High/Boise State) and second baseman Andrew Ely (Eagle High/Washington) on Wednesday. Terms of their deals were not disclosed, and no roster moves have been made to the Hawks' 29-man roster. It is possible one or both players could play in Boise this season.

• Rocky Mountain High product Mason Smith, who was drafted by the San Diego Padres with the 118th pick of the 2013 MLB draft, was called up to the Eugene Emeralds on June 11, but returned to the Arizona rookie league June 20 without appearing in any games. Eugene is scheduled to be in Boise for a three-game series July 4-6.
