Fishing in Treasure Valley ponds is still going strong, but as water temperatures rise, the possibilities for hooking into trout may slow down.
There are probably a lot of rainbows still left in the ponds but Idaho Fish and Game doesn't stock them in the summer because the water temperature is too warm for trout.
Each of the ponds got between 500 and 1,000 trout earlier in June, depending on the size of the pond. That's a lot of fish.
As the water in the ponds warms up, the trout go deeper, so hit your favorite ponds this month.
They make great places to teach kids how to fish and they are close to home.
The ponds also have bass and bluegills, and those fish can be pretty cooperative when it comes to trying to get a fish on the line for a kid.
