Vicente Sarceda Prieto, who allegedly jumped from a passenger seat to the driver's seat and took off during a traffic stop April 23, was captured a week later after Nampa police received a tip.
He is being held on $100,000 bond. A jury trial is set for Sept. 16 before Third District Canyon County Judge James Morfitt.
Prieto was a passenger in a car driven by Brandi Nicole Davis, 34, of Jerome, that was stopped by Nampa police on West Orchard Street, police said. Davis got out of the car and ran away. Meanwhile, Prieto, who was in the back seat, allegedly confronted the officer and drove away, with police in pursuit. Officers later gave up the chase because of safety concerns.
Police said Prieto sideswiped a vehicle on Lake Lowell Avenue near Middleton Road.
When he was captured, Prieto was suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his lower leg. He was taken to a hospital for treatment before going to the Canyon County Jail, where he remains in custody.
When he was arrested, Prieto was wanted on 15 other charges from incidents in February, March and back in December. He faces charges ranging from aggravated battery and assault to use of a deadly weapon in a felony to petit theft.
He was arraigned on all of those charges after he was captured and appeared in court May 5. He has hearings scheduled on those cases in July and August.
