Boise State’s Bates earns more All-American accolades

EUGENE, Ore. — Emma Bates placed fourth in the 5,000 meters Saturday at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Hayward Field.

The junior clocked 15 minutes, 51.87 and earned All-American honors for the ninth time in her collegiate running career.

Even with only four entries in the meet, the Bronco women placed eighth overall (23 points) in the team competition — the best women’s team finish in school history for any sport at an NCAA championship.

Earlier in the week, Bates won the national title in the 10,000 meters and Marisa Howard placed second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
