Check out the Modern Hotel's "Campfire Stories" reading series

Modern Hotel will launch “Campfire Stories,” a new monthly reading series featuring original fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, screenplays and more from Boise's rich literary community. It’s organized by Christian Winn, who produced Storyfort, the literary add-on to this year’s Treefort Music Fest.

Camp out in The Modern’s courtyard, 1314 W. Grove St., Boise, around the fireplaces, grab one of the bar's inventive cocktails and discover the range and depth of Boise writers. Radio Boise will record the readings for future broadcast.

The first installment is June 16 with College of Western Idaho professor and fiction writer Matthew R. K. Haynes and author and Radio Boise host J. Reuben Appelman.

  • July 14: Short story writer Nicole Cullen and Whiting Award-winning poet Kerri Webster
  • Aug. 11: Boise Weekly columnist John Rember and writer Laura Roghaar
  • Sept. 8: Short-story writer Christian Winn and poet Boise State professor Martin Corless-Smith
  • Oct. 13: Screenwriter Samantha Silva and friends
All Campfire Stories are from 8-10 p.m.
