A Nampa couple was apparently driving home with their young children Monday after a weekend in McCall when a two-car crash killed the woman and her boyfriends 4-year-old son, the Valley County Sheriffs Office reported Tuesday afternoon.
Michelle A. Lopez, 21, and Nathaniel J. Ortiz, 4, died in the collision, which happened on Idaho 55 near Smiths Ferry. Nathaniels father, 25-year-old Juan Ortiz, and Lopezs 5-year-old son Raphael Duran were seriously injured and taken by air ambulance to a Boise hospital. Investigators said the 5-year-olds injuries are critical.
The crash is still under investigation, and detectives want to talk to anyone who may have witnessed this crash and has not already spoken to law enforcement. If you have information, call Valley County Dispatch at 208-382-5160.
Juan Ortiz was driving the car that investigators said earlier was T-boned by another car near Milepost 101. The second vehicle hit Ortizs car on the passenger side, a detective said Monday. What led to the collision is unclear, and no further information was released Tuesday about what happened, the other vehicle or its occupants, who reportedly were treated in Cascade after suffering injuries that were not life-threatening.
