The official start to summer is a little more than a week away, but Treasure Valley residents will get a taste Thursday of what's to come in the months ahead.
The National Weather Service expects Thursday's high temperature in Boise to reach 91 degrees, which is 11 degrees higher than the historic average for June 12. The record for the date is 102 degrees, set in 1940.
But a reprieve will come quickly: Friday's high is forecast to reach only 71 degrees (9 degrees below the historic norm for June 13). Saturday will warm to the mid-70s, and the daytime highs will climb steadily back into the low 80s by early next week, according to the Weather Service.
Today's high is expected to reach 82 degrees, with an overnight low of 49. Wednesday will see a high temperature in the mid-80s, and an overnight low in the mid-50s.
