The Boise Hawks have released their initial roster for the 2014 season — it includes 13 pitchers (one left-hander), two catchers, six infielders and four outfielders.

Of the 25 players on the roster, nine have previously played in Boise. Seven players were taken in the top 10 rounds of the draft, all of them pitchers. The Hawks open the season at home at 7:05 p.m. Friday against Tri-City.

Pitcher Ben Wells, a 2010 seventh-round pick, is the lone Hawk to make Baseball America's top-30 list among Chicago Cubs prospects, checking in at 28th. He and seven other players have spent time with long-season clubs this year. No 2014 draft picks are on the roster, though undrafted free agent infielder Danny Canela was added this year. Pitcher Trevor Clifton, a 2013 12th-round pick, turned 19 last month and is the youngest player on the roster. Zak Blair, a 2013 20th-rounder, is the only Hawk born in the 1980s, born on Dec. 19, 1989.

Three Hawks will make their first appearances in the United States — pitcher Francisco Carrillo, pitcher Greyfer Eregua and shortstop Varonex Cuevas — the first two playing last season in Venezuela and Cuevas in the Dominican Republic.
