Escaped Cottonwood prisoners captured

June 7, 2014

Tyler Dean Davis and Dylan James Ames, both 23, were taken into custody without incident about 7 p.m. Saturday near Swallows Park south of Clarkston, Wash.

The men were located following a tip provided to Asotin County sheriff's deputies.

Davis and took off Wednesday morning while unloading a delivery truck at the North Idaho Correctional Institution.

Davis was sentenced March 4 in Ada County to two to five years for grand theft. Ames was sentenced Feb. 26 in Kootenai County to give to 10 years for possession of a controlled substance and two counts of intent to deliver a controlled substance.

The Cottonwood prison primarily houses offenders sentenced under a retained jurisdiction sentence. Retained jurisdiction provides a sentencing alternative for courts to target offenders who might, after a period of programming and evaluation, be viable candidates for probation rather than further incarceration.
