Boise firefighters quickly extinguish small fire at abandoned sawmill

newsroom@idahostatesman.comJune 2, 2014

The fire was reported just after 7 p.m. by a passerby who saw thick smoke coming from outside of one of the buildings of a former sawmill on the 1600 block of Yamhill Lane off Federal Way in Southeast Boise

Fire crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from a small amount of sawdust left inside a hopper. They quickly put out the fire, which caused minor damage. No one was injured.

Welders had been working in the area earlier in the day using cutting torches to dismantle the former lumberyard. Firefighters believe either heat or a spark from the cutting ignited the sawdust.
