Gas line rupture at Five Mile is secured, under control

May 16, 2014

A gas leak on Five Mile Road has been secured and no gas is flowing out of the break, says Intermountain Gas spokesman Byron Defenbach.

Boise police had announced at 3:23 p.m. Friday that Five Mile was closed between Emerald and Franklin roads while workers addressed the leak. Shortly before 4 p.m., Defenbach said traffic was flowing normally again and crews would repair the lines in an hour or two.

A contractor in the area hit a line, Defenbach said. He didn't have further details on what caused the leak.

One customer lost service; that service will be restored as quickly as possible, Defenbach said.

The break was much simpler to fix than " target="_blank">a leak two months ago along Cole Road that knocked out gas service to 35-40 customers and tied up traffic right at rush hour.
