Former Boise State defensive tackle Ian Smart was promoted to head coach at Kuna High earlier this week. Smart had been the defensive line coach for the Kavemen the past two seasons and added defensive coordinator duties last year. Smart, who teaches speech and debate and adaptive P.E. at Kuna High, also coached the defensive line for two years at Bishop Kelly, helping the Knights win the 4A state title in 2010. "I've loved every second of being at Kuna," Smart said. "The last two years I've seen a community that really rallied behind a team and they've embraced everything we've done." A meet and greet with Smart is set for 7 p.m. Monday in the Kuna Middle School gymnasium.

NAMPA WRESTLING: Pending board approval, Luke Crockett will take over as the Bulldogs' head coach. He replaces Wally Lester, who retired after 20 seasons.

CALDWELL ATHLETICS: Former Nampa assistant coach William Rodgers was recently hired as the varsity girls basketball coach. Longtime assistant girls soccer coach Eric Garza has been promoted to head coach. Parents and players are invited to a meet and greet with both coaches at 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, in the gymnasium.
