A 49-year-old man who was serving a life sentence for second-degree murder and other convictions was found dead of an apparent suicide late Saturday at the medium security men's prison in Boise, according to a release from the Idaho Department of Correction.

Daniel Lee Peterson was found hanging in his cell at the Idaho State Correctional Institution at 10:52 p.m. Saturday. Prison staff and paramedics tried to resuscitate Peterson. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Peterson was convicted of second-degree murder, grand theft and robbery in Ada and Canyon counties. He would have been eligible for parole in 2037.

For all unattended deaths at the South Boise Correctional Complex, the Idaho Department of Correction asks the Ada County Sheriff’s Office for assistance in investigating.
