Letter: Roger Hunt

May 11, 2014

Government is a servant, not a master. So states Roger Hunt, candidate for state representative (District 12, Seat A). His opponent and many current "representatives" act as if federal government tells us to do something, we'd better do it! When we told them we wanted them to repeal the insurance exchange, they said, "There is no state that doesn't have an exchange. We have only two choices; a 'state' or a federal exchange." What about "no" exchange?

Aren't we free American citizens who can decide what kind of insurance we want? Look at pathetic Oregon ... $303 million down the drain, and now they plan to spend another $5 million to $10 million to comply with Obamacare. The federal government is considering taking back "grants" it gave Oregon to set up the exchange. The federal government is broke, and it's trying to bankrupt the states, too, by demanding they spend money to do things it did that got it broke! States ought to ignore federal demands and make sure there are no laws preventing people from buying the kind of insurance that suits them. We need representatives who will not let the government be our master. We need Roger Hunt.
